we say to ourselves “I can’t do this” frequently, we begin to believe it. If we say I’ll try, it’s giving ourselves permission to fail. If we say I can do this and keep repeating it, it motivates us to keep trying and if we practice often enough, we get better at it and can succeed. When we succeed at something, we become motivated to try something else. Listening to other people telling us we can’t do something or we’ll never succeed makes us feel negative and less motivated to try and keep trying until we succeed.
In my book Change is Good I have thanked my mother for teaching me this lesson when I was very young. She said you cannot succeed if you don’t try. I kept this in mind when I decided at the age of seven that I wanted to be a nurse. It wasn’t an easy journey but I succeeded in the end by keeping trying. This was one of many achievements I have had which I have written about.
